It’s been a while folks, but today I’ve decided to return to tumblr!  That’s right….DR has returned!!! :)

While I’m sure you’re overly ecstatic and can’t contain your emotions for my return, my first thought of what I wanted to do was a brief review of a new (currently in beta testing) application that helps you organize your Twitter links, and then presents them in a manner that is most important to you based on popularity.

Hettema & Bergstem have produced a great product that I’ve been using non-stop, since I gained access,  to keep up on what I consider to be the most important links trending in my personal Twitter feed.  I’ll update this post once I’ve had solid time to truly test this app.  Thus far, it’s looking great (aesthetically and functionally).  See snapshot below.

    Have a great one!

  3. “Hoot” for Hootsuite? Yes!

Once you’ve started using FacebookTwitterFoursquarePing.fm, and a few others, it’s hard to keep track of everything.  Especially when you open multiple Twitter and Facebook accounts. Here’s where Hootsuite comes into play.

Unlike Tweetdeck and Seesmic that make you download their apps to your hard drive/desktop, Hootsuite is web based.  Therefore, Hootsuite is available pretty much anywhere you have internet access. This gives Hootsuite a slight advantage at the moment to the aforementioned.

Hootsuite has a fairly easy layout.  You can add “Streams” to view all of your feeds such as your twitter mentions, a Facebook post, or even you LinkedIn follows. The option to use multiple “Social Networks” i.e., your three Twitter accounts and that

Facebook account/page you want to hide from your Mom.  A box that reads “Compose Message” is where your 140 character master pieces come in handy for Twitter.  Should you decide to go over 140, it will truncate it for you, meaning, it cuts it off at the 140th character.  Note that Facebook allows for 420 characters. Before you decide to send off your first tweet or FB post, I suggest you add columns that allow you to follow what you’re doing on within each account.

Hootsuite’s “+Add Stream” button lets you decide what types of feeds you would like to see from your social media accounts.  Pretty nifty too, since you can see who’s been tweeting about you via the “Mentions” stream, and view your latest FB friends’ posts.

A unique feature that Hootsuite supports is the ability to Tweet/FB post into the future.  Hootsuite can “hold” a tweet until a specified time.  For example, let’s say you want to be the first person to tweet “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” to your friend in New York.  You can set this time in Hootsuite to hold your tweet until 12:00 a.m. on the date specified.  And……voila…..it’s like magic!  But, unfortunately not real magic.

Overall, Hootsuite has some great tools that I will continue to utilize.  Its accessibility and ease of use are the two most important reasons why I would suggest it for even the novice social media user.

Feel free to post your feedback of this overview.  Cheers!

    Foursquare Image from RealTimeMarketer.com

It was a cold, windy day in early November, the 9th year in the 2nd millennium A.D.  The trees lay barren, slumbering, awaiting their Spring awakening.  It was on this day that I found my own (social media) awakening……Foursquare!

Since this great awakening, my life on the social radar list has been pinged, notified, suggested, befriended, etc. a hundred times over.  My friends list increased from 4 during the first 3 months (this includes a few out-of-state “friends”) to 27 as of today.  Not exactly the most impressive number, but it’ll do for now.  Also, 438 check-ins during 167 nights out where I have earned 10 badges.  Mayorships have decreased from 11 to 7 over time due to my own forgetfulness as well as the increased popularity of Foursquare as is evidenced here:  http://ow.ly/2gCcj

Not only has Foursquare increased my social-location awareness of my peer group as I now know where 10 of my 27 “friends” are at any given moment, it has also allowed me to show the benefits of this service to local businesses.  This service rekindled my love of social media post-twitter obsession (I have been tweeting since late 2006).

There have been a plethora of new/existing apps that now offer location-based data from which companies can pull.  These data sets are certain to become a marketing gold mine for companies if they learn how to correctly use/interpret them.  SCVNGR, Yelp, Loopt, and Twitter are some examples that I personally use, and I hope to continue to find them useful for personal and business reasons.

Overall, Foursquare and I have had a loving partnership that I will continue to cherish….at least until the “next best social media app” comes along.    :)

  6. Justin and I on the beach in Stevensville, MI.  What a great place to spend a long weekend!  Right off I-94 (ish) with two beaches:  one private for residents only and one public for the rest of the peons.  The private beach had some trash strewn around, but this was cleaned up by the next morning.  Pristine, aquamarine water that will soothe your sun-baked skin giving you a refreshing feeling akin to being re-baptized.  Special thank you to Tricia A. and her family for the free cottage!

  7. How I “Yelp” thee.

Yesterday, I applied for an Account Executive position at Yelp!  Instead of just submitting a resume and cover letter (which I obviously did) like all other jobs, my hope is that I can also tweet the top 10 reasons why Yelp should hire me.  Please feel free to follow me on Twitter:  me2Daniel.  You can follow me on my website:  www.flavors.me/me2daniel too.  Lest I forget my Yelp profile:  danielrobert.yelp.com.  Here’s to you!
